Poseidon Altar

The Poseidon Altar is located on a rocky ground at the Tekağaç Cape, at the western end of the Tekağaç Peninsula, where Didim is located. Temples or altars dedicated to Poseidon, the god of the sea in Greek mythology, were built in places overlooking the sea because he was the god of the sea.

The altar, which was built in an east-west direction perpendicular to the sea with a length of 20 meters and a width of 11 meters, can only be seen indistinctly today. This altar, which formed the southern border of Ionia, was the place where sacrifices were made and gifts were presented to Poseidon. With his depiction in mythology, Poseidon shakes not only the seas but also the lands surrounded by the seas with the trident that he holds in his hand. Today, there is a statue in Altinkum depicting this state of Poseidon.
