Didim, which was a district in 1991, has the shape of a peninsula bordered by the province of Muğla in the east, the Aegean Sea in the west and south, Bafa Lake in the north and the Menderes River, and its area is around 402 km2. Situated within the borders of Aydın, Didim is an important tourism center 70 km from Kuşadası and 110 km from Bodrum. Located on one of the two peninsulas surrounding the Güllük Bay (the other is the Bodrum peninsula), Didim has dozens of bays, almost all of which are beaches, on the 90-kilometer coastline. The most important of these bays is undoubtedly Altınkum, which is just in front of the hotels region and one of the world famous beaches of the Aegean.
