DIDIM MUNICIPALITY

 

   

After the earthquake disaster in the region in 1955, the settlement around the Temple of Apollo, which was called “Hisar”, was moved one kilometer south under the name “Yenihisar” together with the disaster houses that were distributed in 1961. The decision to establish a municipality in Yenihisar village, Akköy sub-district of Aydın province, was put into effect in the Official Gazette dated 05 November 1966. Yenihisar, which maintained its identity as a village until 1967, was established as a Municipality in 1968. The town, which started to develop rapidly with the tourism movement that started in the 1980s, became a district in 1991 under the name Yenihisar. In 1997, the name of the district was changed to “Didim”, which is found only in one place in the world and whose root is “Didymaion”, in order to avoid similarities in names. With the "Law No. 6360 on the Establishment of Metropolitan Municipalities and Twenty-Seven Districts in Fourteen Provinces and Amendments to Certain Laws and Decree Laws" published in the Official Gazette dated 06/12/2012 and numbered 28489, Aydın province was transformed into a Metropolitan Municipality. Therefore, the borders of Didim Municipality have changed due to the transformation of two towns and five villages into neighborhoods.

Didim Municipality, which has existed since 1968, continues to grow in parallel with the development of Didim and to serve the region. As of August 9, 2019, a total of 861 personnel are working in Didim Municipality, whose 2020 budget is 135 million TL, including 57 civil servants, 308 permanent workers, 2 contract personnel, 91 temporary workers, 355 company personnel, and 48 company (temporary). The number of personnel of the Municipality increases especially during the tourist season, and there are 26 trucks, 4 forklifts, 14 construction equipment, 19 transit and minibuses, 9 motorcycles, 27 passenger vehicles, 18 tractors, totaling 117 vehicles and construction equipment.
